techPresident: Justices Scalia, Breyer Asked Whether They "Twit"

ADVERTISEMENTS

Doing the Supreme Court's annual pilgrimage to Capitol Hill yesterday, Justices Antonin Scalia and Stephen Breyer were asked about their interest in Twitter. "Have either of y'all," Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) put to the justices, "ever considered tweeting, or twitting?"

Scalia was dismissive. "I don't even know what it is," he said. "I've heard it talked about. My wife calls me 'Mr. Clueless.' I don't know anything about tweeting," he said -- and it's fair to say that he more or less spat out the last word.

Breyer was considerably more open-minded towards Twitter, if still not quite sure of its nuances. His aha moment, it seems, was when his son told him to check out Twitter during the post-election protests in Iran. "And oh my goodness," said Breyer. "I sat there for two hours, absolutely hypnotized." He went on. "It's not the same world...It's not something that's going away."
