Subsidies

By Karl-Friedrich Lenz

ADVERTISEMENTS

The printed edition of Nikkei newspaper has an article today on page 3 about plans to deal with the electricity shortage expected this summer. The Japanese Government plans to invest about one hundred billion Yen in continuing the “eco-point” subsidy scheme (only in the Kanto and Tohoku areas), which gives consumers subsidies when buying energy-saving goods like energy-saving lightbulbs. That subsidy scheme was scheduled to expire this march.

They also plan to give subsidies of another three to four hundred billion Yen for installation of another 10.000 home solar systems in Kanto and Tohoku, generating one Gigawatt overall or one tenth of the anticipated gap in summer.
