Real people on Twitter for #followfriday

ADVERTISEMENTS

Following the lead of my friend Kate Carruthers, when I do participate in #followfriday on Twitter, I now like to write a short blog post explaining why I am recommending those people.  I like this approach as it makes the #followfriday suggestions more personal and gives me an opportunity to (briefly) explain why you should follow each person.

As I have recently finished working for Electronic Frontiers Australia (see here), I thought I'd provide a list of people who you should follow to stay up-to-date with the Open Internet campaign against the Government's mandatory internet filter (in addition to the official @efa_oz account, of course).

Today's #followfriday recommendations are:

@coljac - Colin Jacobs is currently the EFA Chair;

@GeordieGuy - always provocative and opinionated, Geordie Guy is also the EFA Vice-Chair;

@trib - also on the EFA Board, Stephen Collins is the founder of acidlabs and an advocate for public sector reform and Government 2.0;

@nicsuzor - a researcher in intellectual property, technology and virtual communities, Nic Suzor is currently a lecturer at the QUT School of Law (and is also a former EFA Chair);

@NewtonMark - Mark Newton has been a tireless advocate against internet censorship;

@michaelmeloni - Michael Meloni blogs about internet censorship and moral panic at Somebody Think of the Children;

@sgbozman - Eddie regularly tweets about internet censorship, and is usually one of the first to pick up and retweet interesting links and news relevant to the campaign;

@SenatorLudlam - Greens Senator Scott Ludlam has been an eloquent and forceful advocate against the filter in the Australian Parliament.

As always I have added these people to my #followfriday list (a list which contains all of my #followfriday recommendations).

I have also created a separate Open Internet list that you can follow.
