The Tackling Violent Crime Act (read it) comes into effect today, raising the age of consent in Canada from 14 to 16 as well as providing higher mandatory prison sentences for those committing serious gun crimes. The age of consent provision is getting the most headlines, though I suspect the gun laws will have more of an impact.
