Chris Dodd Endorses Barack Obama

Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut endorsed his senate colleague Barack Obama for president Tuesday.

Dodd_strong_together"Put simply, I believe Barack Obama is uniquely qualified to help us face this housing crisis, create good jobs, strengthen America's families in this 21st century global economy, unite the world against terrorism and end the war in Iraq -- and perhaps more importantly, call the American people to shared service and sacrifice," wrote Dodd to his supporters in an e-mail blast. "In this campaign, he has drawn million of voters into politics for the first time in their lives and shown us that we are united by so much more than  that which divides us."

Dodd is the first former Democratic presidential candidate to publicly throw his weight behind one of the remaining two candidates in the race for the Democratic nomination for president.

The Connecticut senator dropped out of the race in early January and doesn't have any pledged delegates, but he's had a strong following among the Netroots. Dodd's also become somewhat of a folk hero for his outspoken positions on privacy and civil liberties issues.
