Wheat In Pork Patty Mix Isn't On Label

By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck

ADVERTISEMENTS
Champ Meatball Co. in Whittier, CA Wednesday recalled approximately 750 pounds of frozen cured pork patty mix because it contains an undeclared allergen, wheat, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Wheat is a known potential allergen, which is not declared on the label. It's a second class, low health risk recall, FSIS says.

The product recalled was:

    * 14-ounce packages of frozen "CHAMP, Nem Nuong Cured Pork Patty Mix for Barbecue Meat Balls." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 21436" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The frozen cured pork patty mix products were produced on various dates, and were distributed to retail establishments and restaurants in Arizona and California.

The problem was discovered by FSIS. There have not been any reports of anyone having an adverse reaction from eating the pork patty mix.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to an allergic reaction.  Anyone concerned about an allergic reaction should contact a physician.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers (including restaurants) of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumer and media with questions about the recall should contact company Owner Krid Hansaward at (562) 693-7836.
