: Food Poison BlogClub Monte Carlo outbreak: Macomb County, Michigan
By Drew Falkenstein
An outbreak at Club Monte Carlo in Macomb County, Michigan has sickened a number of patrons. There is no report yet what bug is responsible for the outbreak, nor how many sick people there are. Maureen Feighan of the Detroit News reports:
Health Department Director Steven Gold said the department was contacted Tuesday by people who attended functions at Club Monte Carlo on Van Dyke Saturday and Sunday and later got sick with gastrointestinal symptoms.
Gold said roughly 100 people have been interviewed, with as many as 200 more to go before the agency wraps up its investigation. The health department tracked down patrons through wedding guest lists.
'We have no conclusions so far,' Gold said.
By the time the health department was notified about the illnesses, the food from last weekend's events had been thrown away, Gold said.
Club Monte Carlo was cited twice for critical violations during a Jan. 12 inspection by the health department, one for food storage and separation issues. It was later corrected, according to the health department's website.
According to the Macomb County Health Department, there were four events last weekend. No indication yet whether people from the other events fell ill. If so, I'm guessing norovirus.
