: Eastern District of Texas Federal Court PracticeSix month anniversary
By Michael Smith
Today is my six month anniversary at my new office, and it's been a really great experience. In that time I've gotten to work with a lot of really great lawyers and clients (you know who you are) on some really interesting cases, finished up my term on the State Bar board of directors, but started some new jobs with the Texas Bar Journal and State Bar Litigation Section, gotten to do a lot of writing and speaking both in and out of cases, and handled almost 17,000 work e-mails (seriously). Thanks to everyone out there that's helped make this such a great transition - no one does this without a lot of help from a lot of people. I want to thank in particular my new partners Clyde, Homer, Bryan and Larry (who do, unfortunately sound like they work part time as longshoremen, but you have to take the bad with the good), my paralegal Pam Matthews, who makes this place both efficient and fun, and finally and most of all, my wife Jamie, without whom nothing would be possible (but the thermostat at home could be set several degrees higher).
My dad once said that the test of a good job is when you can't wait to get to the office in the morning. This morning I was here at 7:45 am looking forward to checking my in box and seeing what the latest crisis was. I can't ask for better than that.
