: Eastern District of Texas Federal Court Practice"Art at Work": March/April 2009 featured artist Bob Metzger
By Michael C. Smith
Our featured artist for the Art at Work program for March and April is Bob Metzger of Marshall, who can reached at smanor@shreve.net. Bob is a retired engineer and comes to Marshall from Michigan. He works from his studio in the Marshall Visual Arts Center, and specializes in watercolors, with a decided emphasis on florals (he has a notable mastery of the color green in watercolors, which I'm told is a difficult color to handle) and architectural works. The latter is what has always attracted me to Bob's works, as they feature many of our historical buildings in town, so I have been looking forward to having Bob's works in the office. We had actually previously given the newly-framed original of Carol Pace's watercolor of the old courthouse (reproduced in our firm's 2008 Christmas card) pride of place in our reception area, but after seeing Bob's beautiful watercolor (left) of First Methodist Church and the Hotel Marshall with the old courthouse in the background, Pam and I decided to temporarily relegate Carol's piece to one of our attorney offices.
His florals are really really striking - I've already zeroed in on my favorite, which is second from the left in the picture to the left. But we like his paintings of Caddo Lake too...
Bobs works are on display at the MVAC as well as in the Third Floor Gallery of the Weisman Center in downtown Marshall (better known as the lunch cafe up the street from the federal courthouse).
