Ethics
: Legal Ethics Forum. . . and a few more items (September 9, 2010)
ADVERTISEMENTS
- Rich Cassidy, at On Lawyering, pushes for a broad implementation of Civil Gideon.
- An item I missed about a week ago: from Above the Law, a lawsuit against the Avvo site.
- This one's admittedly a bit tangential, but in, Telling through Type: Typography and Narrative in Legal Briefs by Derek Kiernan-Johnson, he explains how typeface choices are part of advocacy and suggests that typeface can even be an aspect of unethical advocacy in thwarting the opponent's narrative goals (isn't that the point of advocacy?) and obscuring inconvenient facts (those facts weren't inconvenient; they were irrelevant).
- WSJ: Pressure on hourly fees has led high tech law firms to add value in other ways, including the time-honored practice of connecting clients to VCs (and thereby helping money move into the client and eventually to the firm)
- WSJ: an analysis of the biglaw financial performance so far in 2010 -- "not a banner year"
