Another Reason to Hate Local Politics

There are few things in the world more annoying than a local politician - school board members, city council members, county commissioners. While I'm sure there are lots of exceptions, in my experience these people tend to be exactly the kind of people you don't want in charge of anything - ignorant busybodies who cling to their small amount of power as if they were Napoleon reborn. Satraps of the worst kind.

Here's a perfect example from Whitehall, Ohio, where a city council member thought that since next month is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin it would be a good idea to declare his birthday, Feb. 12, as Darwin Day. That sent the creationists over the edge, of course, so she watered it down to "Science Month" and included Galileo, who was born on Feb. 15.
