: Dispatches from the Culture WarsObama: No Fairness Doctrine
By Ed Brayton
The White House has - again - made clear that President Obama opposes any reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine. Good, it's a terrible idea, both unnecessary and dangerous. But for crying out loud, can we now end this ridiculous hysteria in the right wing media and blogosphere about it coming back? Yes, there are a few Democrats in Congress who would like to bring it back. But there isn't a single bill to do so. In fact, there are three bills to prevent it from coming back. And when it came up for a vote in the last session, they couldn't even get a majority of Democrats to vote for it, much less a majority of the Congress. No one is going to silence Rush Limbaugh, for crying out loud.
