  • Jason Mazzone, at Balkinization, "Judge Baer and Grutter v. Bollinger" discussing a request by a federal judge that lead counsel assign women and/or minorities to a case.  Although I share Judge Baer's concerns about the lack of diversity in the profession, I don't think his order/request is the right way to deal with the issue and in any case doesn't address the structural problem.
  • Conference, Nov. 4th, at UC-Berkeley (Booth Auditorium), from 3-6 pm: Detention, Interrogation, Torture and the Legal Profession: What Lawyers Have Done.  What They Should Do Now. Unfortunately, the program does not have a legal ethicist on it, but otherwise the speakers look solid.
  • Here's a news account on the article by Jane Yakowitz that we discussed a while back -- looking at what happens to those who fail the bar exam.
  • Certifications for legal project management skills?  I can see the business model of the group providing the certifications, but is this good for anyone?
  • Avvo, the lawyer rating service, is expanding into the doctor rating business.
