Legal Ethics: we're never hot (and often staid if not boring)

ADVERTISEMENTS

You may remember that several years ago we commented on the article by Sara Stadler about what legal fields were hot for purposes of academic hiring.  In her view, Professional Responsibility was a "strong sell" -- meaning no one wants us -- and on top of that PR was apparently so boring that our bad rating didn't even warrant inclusion in Stadler's final draft.  People who teach PR struggled with the cognitive dissonance that comes from such news, given that we teach what is undisputedly the most fascinating and important course in the legal curriculum.

Now comes a blog post at Prawsblawg doing a quick assessment of what's hot today, based upon the Entry Level Hiring Survey at Legal Theory Blog.

As far as I can tell, Professional Responsibility, like Generalissimo Franco, is still dead.  On the bright side, we are gratified to see that two profs on that list have PR listed as their second specialty: Tigran Eldred, who's left some great comments here and who's heading to New England Law, and Brian Sheppard, who's headed to Seton Hall.  (As I understand it, Tigran has been a clinical prof at Hofstra and at Lewis & Clark.)  Welcome to the few, the proud, the PR teachers.
