The Confirmation Circus Continues

ADVERTISEMENTS

USCA 9 nominee Goodwin Liu had an interesting confirmation hearing yesterday.  Meanwhile the attack on Liu and on anyone who defends Liu continues.

The link below includes a video of Liu discussing the legacy of slavery in America.  This is apparently the "smoking gun" that exposes him as an advocate of reparations for slavery. I recommend watching the video rather than only reading what the post has to say about the video.  When I watched the video I found Liu's comments to be measured and for the most part convincing.  I played the video several times because I was trying to find where Liu talks about payment of reparations as alleged by his opponents.   Perhaps my sound system does not work, so I missed that part.

In any event, whether we support or oppose a nominee for the federal courts, it is our obligation as lawyers to insist that the issue be debated and decided based on facts not fiction.  That -- and an up or down vote from the Senators we pay to vote as well as talk -- is all we can ask.
