: Dispatches from the Culture WarsCal State Relents on Quaker Oath
By Ed Brayton
Stop me if you've heard this one before. University requires a ridiculous oath to be signed. Quaker professor refuses to sign the oath. University fires professor. Professor protests. University relents and allows professor to sign the oath with a disclaimer. Can't they just skip to the last part right off the bat? Better yet, get rid of that idiotic loyalty oath that is a vestige of the paranoid 60s. I'll take government oaths seriously as soon as Bush is brought up on charges of violating his oath of office for having spent the last 8 years defecating on the constitution.
