News of a NJ lawyer who allegedly forged $350,000 in phony billings. Something in the story caught my eye: the term "contract partner." I've heard of non-equity partners, service partners, junior partners, senior partners, and so on, but "contract partner" struck me as odd. . . . . . We'll soon hear about a study of $4 billion in biglaw billings. One of the not too surprising results: informed general counsel can strike hard bargains. . . . . . An Irish court clarifies the right of Irish barristers to be heard -- to have the "right of audience" -- when not accompanied by a solicitor. . . . . . The new outsourcing deal by CMS Cameron McKenna -- focusing on the firm's back-office functionality -- isn't making its current employees happy. . . . . . Mike Frisch, at Legal Protection Blog, comments on an order from the Arkansas Supreme Court, dealing with lawyer assistance programs. The programs strike a balance between supporting a lawyer who's trying to get her life back together and supporting the public's right to be protected from fraud. . . . . . Former lawyer and former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced back to jail. . . . . . Patent lawyer makes offensive comment to Jewish witness in trial. . . . . . Here's an article about women making partner at biglaw. Interesting stat: "According to statistics compiled by NALP, the Association
for Legal Career Professionals, in 2009, 5.9 percent of lawyers were working
part-time, and the majority of them, about 73 percent, were women." . . . . . The Society of American Law Teachers (SALT) wants law schools to withhold LSAT data from US News & World Report, because, it's argued, over-emphasis on LSATs leads to fewer under-represented minorities in law schools.
