Maryland Study Commission Nearing Completion of Work

AP reports, "Maryland: Panel to discuss death penalty recommendations," via the Delmarva Daily Times.The Maryland Commission on Capital Punishment is scheduled to meet to discuss draft recommendations on what they will be submitting to the General Assembly. The panel, which will meet today, is due to send recommendations to lawmakers by Dec. 15, so they have about a month to go.The commission was set up to study a variety of issues relating to capital punishment in the state, including cost and jurisdictional disparities.There is a de facto moratorium against capital punishment in Maryland because of a ruling in late 2006 by the state's highest court.The court ruled the state's protocol for lethal injection was implemented without proper approval by a legislative committee...continue to full post
