Sunday newspapers brought editorials from Connecticut and Maryland.Connecticut's Norwich Bulletin has, "Death penalty must be tossed."In a Sunday editorial published in the fall of 2007, we called for the repeal of the state?s death penalty. We believed then, and still do, that the death penalty has failed to act as a deterrent to violent crime, and the drawn out legal process to implement it only causes more pain and suffering to victim?s families. It is a highly emotional issue, as witnessed last week when Dr. William Petit testified in front of the legislature?s Judiciary Committee, urging lawmakers to repair the law, not replace it. In an impassioned speech, Dr. Petit, whose wife and two daughters were murdered in the 2007 Chesire home invasion, spoke in favor of the death penalty, but also about the pain the prolonged process inflicts on families...continue to full post
