Over the last few months, we've been busy with retroactive crack cases. We set up sort of a working committee, with the blessing of Chief Judge Vratil, that included the US Attorney's Office, US Probation, and our office to try to work through these cases and get relief where relief is due.The US Sentencing Commission has come out with a preliminary report about the status of retroactive crack litigation, and Kansas looks good. The numbers are already a bit out of date, but I expect even more favorable now. Here's the breakdown:We are 12th in the nation in litigating the cases (out of 94 districts).Within the Tenth Circuit, Kansas has 94 of the total 131 orders.The average decrease in months is 18.The average decrease in percentage of sentence is about 16%...continue to full post
