Cleveland Takes a Stand against DBE Fraud...kind of

The Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote a year-end follow up story regarding an airport contractor, Anthony Allega Cement, that the city found to be using front companies to meets its minority subcontracting goals. Here?s some highlights from the story:In April, Mayor Frank Jackson suspended the company indefinitely after a city investigation found Allega used front companies to get around city rules requiring work at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to be set aside for companies owned by minorities and women.
The investigation revealed that Allega paid two companies for doing little or no work during a 2001 airport expansion. Recently, Allega sought a $40 million contract for runway work at the airport.
