Charlie Crist on Monday rejected a list of judicial nominees for a state appeals court, citing the lack of racial diversity. The Fifth District Court of Appeal covers a broad and diverse swath of north-central Florida counties, including St. Johns and Putnam, as well as the Orlando area. The appeals court, which has 10 seats, has no African-American members and just one woman. The nine-member judicial nominating commission forwarded six white applicants last month. Crist, who has previously said he wants more diversity on the bench, asked the commission to send a new list, saying he was disappointed that the nominees did not include at least one of three qualified African-American applicants...continue to full post
