: ACS BlogUnprecedented Gathering To Focus On Impact of 13th Amendment
When it comes to debate, examination and discussion of constitutional amendments, it's the First, Second, Fourth and perhaps Fourteenth Amendments that frequently take center stage. But a forthcoming conference, co-hosted by ACS, at the University Chicago Law School will focus on the Thirteenth Amendment and its impact on advancing civil rights in America and human rights abroad. The April 17-18 conference will bring together leading scholars in history, law, philosophy, political science and literature for an examination of the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery and helped invalidate its remnants. The conference participants are to include Profs. Mary Ann Case, David Brion Davis, Eric Foner, Andrew Koppelman, Maria Ontiveros, Rebecca J. Scott and Geoffrey R. Stone. The conference schedule, full list of co-sponsors, and registration information are available here.
