ADVERTISEMENTS
Eriq Gardner * The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court's ruling that a technology that allowed users to play World of Warcraft without actually having to directly play the game violated the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions. Simple enough, right? Well, not exactly. The EFF argues that the decision gives video game publishers too much ability to use copyright law to punish game-players with restrictive end-user license agreements. [Wired / EFF] * Filmmaker Michael Moore has put up the $20K bond for the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange out of a London jail. [ABA Journal] * The Independent Film and Television Alliance has published summaries of Final Awards issued in secretive arbitration proceedings between 2007 to 2010. The decisions offer a rare look at some of the disputes haunting indie film companies owned by Mark Cuban, Harvey Weinstein, and others. [IFTA] * The MPAA's letter campaign to thousands of universities reminding them of their obligation to enact anti-piracy measures gets a surprising endorsement from the Harvard school newspaper. [Harvard Crimson] * Both Charlie Sheen and Justin Bieber are off the hook after law enforcement cleared them in separate incidents. For Sheen, the NYPD says it won't press charges against the actor for allegedly assaulting a porn star at a hotel room. For Bieber, British Columbia police won't pursue prosecution of the singer for allegedly punching a 12-year-old boy in the face during a game of laser tag. [RadarOnline / MTV]
