http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/27378/20100608/oil-spill.htm http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/27378/20100608/oil-spill.htm . It even states that: “When the phrase “oil spill” is typed on Google or Yahoo, the immediate result guides one to BP http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/488/bp/ ?s “Gulf of Mexico http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/439/mexico/ response”, its official page dedicated to giving information about its attempt to curtail the spill.” This is fine, except that it is totally untrue. First, one cannot as far as I am aware, “buy” a phrase on google or yahoo. The internet is not like Wheel of Fortune (”I?d like to buy a phrase please”). All one can do (and this law firm does it as well) is place an ad, which will appear when a certain search is performed. One does the search and the ad appears. But it clearly looks like an ad. One has to click on it to get to the ad?s web location. It is simply not an automatic re-direct of a person?s search as the article reports. Try it yourself. Do a search for “oil spill” and you will instantly see what I mean, the BP ad is there, it is first, it is a banner and very visible. One might even want to click on it to read what BP is doing to stop the spill, but it is not in any way a surreptitious re-direct of a search. I am shocked at how this story is being picked up.
