Guy on probation gets to kill in the name of the state

By S. COTUS

ADVERTISEMENTS

SL&P points to a story of a guy on probation seeking permission to leave the state ? to take part in an execution.  Anyway, everyone (i.e. the feds and the state) seems happy with this kind of person killing in the name of the state, even though his behavior would not be acceptable in most large law firms.

It seems that everyone was aware of this, but they were hunky-dory with the concept of using unsavory characters to conduct state-sponsored killing.  I commend the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for 1) revealing the name of the executioner; and 2) explaining how he might lack the necessary morals to kill a man.  Hopefully this will aid Americans in making a truly Democratic choice about whether it is moral to kill in the name of justice and humanity.  (Also, I think that executioners should be politically accountable.  They should either have to stand for election, or be subject to a public nomination and confirmation process, where a legislature can review their past record of killing.)
