: The Faculty LoungeWho knew books had trailers? (Oh yeah - and Sotomayor was confirmed).
By Mark Weidemaier
So until recently - make that yesterday - I had no idea that books came with trailers. But why not? If a movie's make-believe plagiarist novelist can have a real website, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. To the point, though: Here's the trailer for Inherent Vice, Thomas Pynchon's new, noir-ish novel. I gather the novel is some sort of detective story, in which "private eye Doc Sportello comes, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era..." Sounds fun. The good news is that this particular Pynchon novel is supposed to be, you know, readable. But the real mystery seems to be the trailer itself. Is that the notoriously-reclusive Pynchon doing the voiceover? You be the judge. Here, for comparision purposes, is his cameo appearance on the Simpsons.
Oh yes: And Sotomayer was just confirmed 68-31. (Kennedy did not vote.)
