: Legal Theory BlogCorrado on Nussbaum
By Lawrence Solum
Michael L. Corrado (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - School of Law) has posted Disability and Nationality: Martha Nussbaum on Justice (Essays in Philosophy, Vol. 9, No.1, 2008) on SSRN. Here is the abstract:
Martha Nussbaum is an advocate of the capabilities approach that she shares with Amartya Sen, and in recent years she has set out to demonstrate the inadequacy of competing approaches. In Women and Human Development: The Capabilities Approach, she took on utilitarianism; in Frontiers of Justice she takes on Rawls and social contract theory generally. She differs from Sen in privileging certain capabilities, and the key to Frontiers of Justice is her list of central capabilities.
