By Sara
The College of Law is not alone on campus when it comes to exploring issues of law and justice. If you need a little break from the Socratic method, check out the current exhibit at the ASU Art Museum by artist-in-residence Gregory Sale, It’s Not Just Black and White.
“It?s not just black and white is a three-month-long residency exhibition with Gregory Sale, a Phoenix-based artist who will work through artistic gestures to initiate and host dialogue, aspiring to give voice to the multiple constituencies of the corrections, incarceration and criminal justice systems. The ASU Art Museum gallery space will operate as a site for developing and displaying visual and mediated exhibitions, dance and other staged events, discussions and readings.”
Sales is collaborating with correctional institutions and outside organizations to explore these issues. As part of the planned events, this week several inmates, guarded by MCSO officers, painted black and white stripes on the museum walls. The exhibit web site which will have a calendar of future programs and events, will go live this week.
You can check out It’s Not Just Black and White at the ASU Art Museum Season Opening Reception is this Friday, February 18 from 7-9 p.m. The exhibit continues through May 14, 2011.
