: Food Poison BlogFDA Finds Salmonella at Egg Facility, More Info to Come?
By David Babcock
Earlier this month, Mary Clare Jalonick of the Washington Post reported that the FDA had come up with positive tests for Salmonella at one of the nation's largest egg farms:
The FDA is inspecting the country's 600 largest egg farms in the wake of a salmonella
outbreak in eggs last summer that sickened at least 1,900 people. The agency said Tuesday it has completed 35 inspections and found 76 positive swabs of salmonella in facilities owned by one producer.
Still lacking however, is further detail on the source of the positive tests: "The agency declined to name the farm and a spokeswoman said the FDA doesn't yet know if any illnesses were connected to the contamination." Apparently, FDA did confirm that the implicated farm has addressed the issue.
Last summer's otbreak, and resulting recall of nearly half a billion eggs, resulted in ongoing litigation.
