Inflation, Anybody?

By Joseph McDaniel, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS
Have you noticed that even though nothing has changed in your purchasing habits, you now have more month left at the end of the money?

That's because inflation has been eating your lunch for you!

And that's one of the reasons that bankruptcy rates are going up in the United States, along with the death of manufacturing in the U.S., and outsourcing, bursting bubbles, and excessive regulation, and every other darn thing that could hurt our economy. It's the perfect wave. But nobody seems to want to talk about inflation, because that's what happens when dollars are being printed like they're made of...paper!

Now, there are all sorts of ways you can measure inflation, and I'm not smart enough to discuss any of 'em, because I'm a simple backwoods bankruptcy attorney in primitive Arizona, not some smart city slicker in New York City!

But even a rustic like me can tell that inflation is moving at a faster pace when restaurants apologize for not holding prices down, even while other restaurants on the same wealthy street are closing like...things that close a lot.

You haven't seen such an apology?

Well, you're about to see one. Besides, this is a shameless plug for a place (Lone Star Steakhouse on Camelback Road) where another guy named Joe is the manager, and he's a darn good guy, and a recent proud papa. So I want to kick him as much business as I can, you know?

Besides, if restaurants on Camelback Road keep closing at their present rate, I'll be reduced to taking peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to my office for lunch.  And I learned to hate them badly when I worked as a law clerk for two District of Arizona Bankruptcy Judges in my youth!
