We took a little break over the last couple days to attend the U.S. House Judiciary Committee hearing on medical malpractice, at which Joanne Doroshow, Executive Director of the Center for Justice & Democracy, was the only witness for the Democrats.
Among the highlights: Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) grilling the AMA witness about whether submitting reimbursements to Medicare for unnecessary tests (?defensive medicine?) couldn?t be considered filing ?false claims?, and watching some of the more hostile members get flummoxed while unsuccessfully trying to stump Joanne, whose written testimony was 29 pages with 100 footnotes.
