: The GavelSenate Confirms More Judge Nominees
By Peter Hardin
The Senate has confirmed two appeals court judges nominated by President Obama as it continues work in a lame-duck session.
Raymond Lohier, an assistant U.S. attorney in New York, was confirmed for the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and North Carolina Judge Albert Diaz was confirmed for the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to a Blog of Legal Times article.
The Main Justice blog reported these others were confirmed over the weekend: Carlton W. Reeves as a federal district judge in Mississippi; Edmond E-Min Chang in Illinois; Ellen Lipton Hollander in Maryland; and Denise Jefferson Casper in Massachusetts.
Susan Richard Nelson was confirmed as a federal district judge in Minnesota, according to a Minneapolis Star-Tribune article, and Leslie Kobayashi won confirmation as a federal district judge in Hawaii, the Associated Press reported.
Some of Obama’s most controversial nominees still awaited action by the Senate. You can learn more about partisan sparring over judicial nominees, and the Obama administration’s record on judicial nominations, from Gavel Grab.
