By Jay D. Dean

ADVERTISEMENTS

Fifty percent of local governments in the U.S. expect decreased revenue in 2001, and 19 percent expect to have fewer employees, according to a newly released survey funded in part by the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems. The Health and OPEB Funding Strategies: 2010 National Survey of Local Governments is based on responses from more than 1,500 city, county, township and special district governments across the country.  The study was conducted by Cobalt Community Research, a nonprofit research organization based in Lansing, Michigan, and analysis by Pal Zorn of Gabriel Roeder Smith & Company. The survey report provides detailed insight into the response of local governments to accounting and financial reporting standards for Postemployment Benefits Other than Pensions (OPEB). It can be viewed via NCPERS? website at http://www.ncpers.org/News/?newsid=118.
