ABA Ethics 20/20 Commission Releases Papers on Admission by Motion and ALF

ADVERTISEMENTS

The ABA Commission on Ethics 20/20 released two new issues papers on Friday.

The first paper concerns the Model Rule on Admission by Motion. The Model Rule describes the process by which a lawyer licensed in one state can gain admission to the bar in another state without taking that state's bar examination.  The Model Rule was originally adopted in 2002 as part of a package of recommendations by the ABA's Commission on Multijurisdictional Practice   The issues paper asks whether the Commission should consider possible amendments to the Model Rule in light of the increase in cross-border practice since the Model Rule was originally adopted.

The second paper concerns alternative litigation financing.  This topic has received considerable recent attention, including in this New York Times story and this excellent post by Brad Wendel.
