: Food Poison BlogPablo's Produce recalls cilantro due to Salmonella contamination
By Drew Falkenstein
Pablo's Produce, Inc. of Oxnard, Ca yesterday voluntarily recalled one lot of cilantro because it has the potential to be contaminated by Salmonella. The recall involves only one lot of cilantro and does not involve any other cilantro sold before or after November 24 or December 2. The contamination was detected in a routine surveillance sample at a produce distributor in California.
The recalled Cilantro was bundled with white twist ties with black lettering spelling the word 'Cilantro' and UPC # 03383801049. The twist tie also has the words 'Pablo's Produce of USA' in red and green writing. The cilantro was available for sale from November 24, 2010 through December 2, 2010.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can results in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
