: AFL-CIO NOW BLOGHelp Long-Term Jobless Workers Beat the Clock
By Tula Connell
Failure by the House yesterday to act on legislation that would maintain unemployment insurance (UI) for long-term jobless workers highlights how much work we need to do to get Congress to do the right thing.
If Congress does not act by Nov. 30 to maintain UI, 800,000 jobless workers will lose this crucial lifeline. By the end of the year, 2 million unemployed workers will lose UI if no bill is passed.
You can help. Take a minute to embed this Unemployment Benefits Countdown Clock on your website. The embed code is here. Next, spend a few seconds signing a petition to Congress to tell lawmakers to maintain UI.
