Blog Caveat

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

In light of the recent CJ story on the pending regulation of lawyer communications on social networking sites (eg., Facebook, Twitter, and presumably blogging), I thought it best to restate my position about this blog.

First, I have been writing this blog for nearly five years and now exceed one million reads by viewers.

Second, this blog is legal commentary and speech covered by the First Amendment.

Third, this blog is not commercial speech.

Fourth, I do not seek or solicit clients using this blog.

Fifth, I do not provide legal advice to anyone on this blog.  This is no different than any legal periodical designed to be consumed by lawyers. Just as anyone can go and read a law review article or any other legal publication, the same goes here.

Sixth, I do not create an attorney client relationship with anyone who reads this blog.  Get your own lawyer.

Seventh, my opinions are my opinions, designed to encourage discourse and discussion in a legal world that seems more concerned with profits than the profession.
