The Obama administration will announce soon a decision on the venue for trying accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four co-defendants, Attorney General Eric Holder said.
Holder announced last year the defendants would be tried in federal court in New York City, but that idea ignited deep opposition, and the administration later signaled it was rethinking its plan (see Gavel Grab).
According to a Wall Street Journal article attributed to unnamed officials a supposition that “the most likely outcome is a military commission trial at Guantanamo Bay, where the accused men are now held.”
In an unusual twist, Human Rights Watch is putting video advertising in thousands of New York City yellow cabs urging the trial be held in New York City federal court, CNN reported. A two-minute, longer version of the 30-second ad is available by clicking on the image above.
