"Some Thoughts about Our American Jury System... "

ADVERTISEMENTS

This post was written by Jackson and Wilson, Inc.: "I think that juries protect us all. I've seen it in the courtroom and I've seen it in the business world.

The fact of the matter is that the America's civil justice system is the best in the world and frankly, has stood the test of time. If there's a better system in the world, I'd like you to tell me where it is. If you have a very serious civil legal matter that needed to be resolved, what better venue is there than in the United States?

Our civil justice system doesn't put anyone in jail...

I'm sharing this information with you because in my opinion (which is shared by many other people who are "part of the system"), our fundamental constitutional right to a trial by jury is under attack. Special interests, such as the manufacturing, insurance, and drug industries, want to change the system to benefit their own financial and legal interests...

Here are several other challenges to our justice system that many people do not often think about:

  • Inadequate juror compensation.-Juror prejudice from public relations campaigns (see my earlier blog comments)
  • Delayed or denied justice from court budget cuts
  • Judge shortages backlogging cases
  • Appellate courts reversing jury verdicts
  • Secret settlements hiding justice from the public (see my earlier blog comments)
  • Refusing media access to investigate court files
  • Legislatures predetermining legal issues (see my earlier blog comments)
  • A poisoned, partisan political landscape

Let's all get involved and continue to make sure that our individual civil rights are protected. Let's make sure our civil rights are not taken away from us."
