Watch for Giluiani-McCain Skirmish

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
In almost any other year, the strategy of waiting out the primaries in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada (not to mention Wyoming and Michigan) would be outright ludicrous.

Yet Giuliani has incredibly pursued this strategy with what looked like some success. He has remained in contention in Florida despite coming in 5th in Iowa and 4th in New Hampshire.

But McCain, on the strength of his NH comeback, is picking up momentum. He's now led in the last three Florida polls.

If McCain wins both Michigan tomorrow and South Carolina next week, he'll have huge momentum going into Florida and super Tuesday.

Rudy needs to do something to stop that scenario. And it means teaming up with Romney in Michigan and Huckabee in South Carolina.

Just as McCain and Huckabee declared detente so that they could each beat Romney, Giuliani needs Romney and Huckabee to slow down McCain now.

It's a ridiculous primary scenario. But one where a possible outcome is super Tuesday resolving almost nothing. And then a brokered GOP convention is a serious possibility.
