: Salmonella BlogFresh Choice red leaf lettuce recalled due to Salmonella
By Marler Clark LLP
State health officials warn consumers not to eat certain Fresh Choice red leaf lettuce sold at three Southern California grocers, due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The lettuce was sold between Oct. 20 and Nov. 1 at Canton Food Co. in Los Angeles, Cardenas Market and Numero Uno Market locations throughout Southern California, according to California Department of Public Health director Dr. Mark Horton.
Fresh Choice Marketing of Oxnard produced the lettuce and made it available in grocery stores as whole head lettuce without identifying labels, Horton said.
The contaminated red leaf lettuce is no longer being sold but CDPH investigators are concerned consumers might still have the vegetable in their homes. Horton said most people infected by Salmonella recover within a week but some may develop complications that require hospialization.
