Eight China Market Trends.

By Dan

ADVERTISEMENTS

I once read that using a number in a blog post title increases readership by about 50%. As someone who loves lists, I buy that.

And so I was drawn to this post, entitled, "China: Five Trends to Monitor." Once there, the fact that the post was compiled from an interview with Vladimir Djurovic, the owner/founder of LabBrand, kept me intrigued. I have never met nor spoken with Djurovic, nor with anyone else at LabBrand, but I have a client in a very traditional industry who used LabBrand for its China market research and it swears by them. Interestingly, my client ended up using LabBrand's market research to decide not to enter China.

The post is based on the blogger asking Vladimir Djurovic for his views on "recent market trends in China that entrepreneurs would find interesting." Djurovic saw these five:

On Culture and Behaviour:  There is a growing need for professional training solutions for service industries like catering, hospitality, etc…"

On Communication and Design: Branded applications for Mobile platforms (Ipod/ Android) will surge in the coming months and there will be huge opportunities for brands and for developer/content providers.

On Product and Services: Medicines/Pharma

On Market and Consumers: Increased spending by China's elderly. Expect things like high end retirement homes.

On Retail: More Online shopping, especially for luxury and high end goods.

Not in-depth, I know, but strikes me as accurate.

Jack Perkowski, over on his Managing the Dragon blog, did a post, entitled,"Three Trends," in which he posits that the following three trends are changing China's "competitive landscape."

  1. The local market is getting larger and more important as an increasingly restless workforce demands higher wages and a path to higher income jobs.
  2. As economic development evens out in China, growth will be fastest in the interior, further increasing the size and importance of the local market.
  3. As the local market expands, local companies are gaining market share.

Again, I tend to agree.

What do you think of these eight? What other trends are you seeing?
