: Food Poison BlogSalmonella Outbreak - Marler Clark Offers A Way for Egg Companies to Express Their Sorrow
By Bill Marler
Salmonella Egg Outbreak Sickened Thousands Nationwide
At the Congressional Hearing into the Salmonella Egg outbreak, the owners of Wright County Egg expressed their sorrow for the thousands of Salmonella illnesses tied to their products. They met with victims and said they had been praying for the recovery of those sickened. Food safety attorney Bill Marler attended the hearing and subsequent meeting with his client Sarah Lewis, who had testified.
'The DeCosters were visibly shaken,' said Marler. 'It was clear that they were genuinely sorry for the illnesses, medical costs, and loss of work their customers have endured. They have the ability to express that sorrow and assist the impacted families by having their insurance companies step up to the plate and cover these basic needs. Hillandale Farms should certainly join them.'
Marler goes on to say on his blog that 1,608 victims identified by the CDC and tied to the egg outbreak by genetic fingerprinting should be eligible. He goes one step farther.
'Any lawyer (that would include me) must waive fees and costs related to any out-of-pocket payments,' wrote Marler. 'Let's get the injured people back to square one. Now, that would be an answer to prayer.'
In August 2010, Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms together recalled 550,000,000 eggs due to contamination with Salmonella. At least 1,600 people have been culture-confirmed to date; the CDC estimates that 38 times the culture-confirmed number are sickened in a Salmonella outbreak. Marler Clark represents over 100 victims of the Wright County Egg-Hillandale Farms egg outbreak.
