A Gem of a Story

Only on  Friday would there be a story which involves: a Los Angeles Courtroom, the Brazilian jungle, an emerald as heavy as a horse, Las Vegas and hurricane Katrina.  (And it’s not a long story!)  An 840 pound emerald was dug up in Brazil (I added the jungle part, it seemed necessary) and then allegedly purchased for $60,000 (it is now estimated to be worth 400 million dollars). Next it vanished, maybe was stolen, and ended up in a warehouse in New Orleans where it survived flooding caused by hurricane Katrina.  It was recovered when an man was trying to sell it in Las Vegas.  Now that it has been recovered, the gem is the main exhibit in a suit pending in a Los Angeles Courtroom.  Not surprisingly, several parties claim to be its owner.  Bless that Judge and jury!  Here is a link: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iZFkvdBGYh5JwI0ODHy7lCT4gi8AD9IE5M1O0
