Boehner Land: A Wall Street Playground

By Mike Hall

Opening the gates to ?Boehner Land,? is way beyond the budget of working families, but Wall Street, health insurance, tobacco and other corporate lobbyists have no trouble paying the price of admission.

The New York Times reports House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who is in line to become speaker of the House if Republicans win a majority of Houses seats this November,

maintains especially tight ties with a circle of lobbyists and former aides representing some of the nation?s biggest businesses, including Goldman Sachs, Google, Citigroup, R. J. Reynolds, MillerCoors and UPS.

Take look at the new Boehner Land website from the Democratic National Committee for a closer examination of many of the corporate crowd who, writes the Times? Eric Lipton,

have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to his campaigns, provided him with rides on their corporate jets, socialized with him at luxury golf resorts and waterfront bashes and are now leading fund-raising efforts for his Boehner for Speaker campaign, which is soliciting checks of up to $37,800 each, the maximum allowed.

What they got for their investments was a leader of the pack who sought to kill the Wall-Street reform, kill health care reform and kill all jobs bills.  Think what would have happened if he had the majority behind him?

While it?s far from a sure bet that Boehner and his gang of corpra-teers and Tea Partiers will be able to hoodwink enough voters to regain the House, it is indeed a sure bet that if he does, ?Boehner Land? will not be a working family friendly place.
