Jury: Woman Defrauded By Hospital, Awarded $1 Million

A Texas jury awarded a Houston woman $1 million after they ruled she was defrauded by Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas. The jury ruled the hospital “fraudulently obtained consent to do an autopsy” on the woman’s husband who died at their facility in January 2004. The man’s heart was removed and he was buried without it, but the hospital failed to notify the wife, the lawsuit stated. The lawsuit had also accused the hospital of negligence and wrongful death, but the jury ruled the man’s death was unrelated to the care at the hospital.
