Are You On The Market? IU Business Is Looking

By Gordon Smith, Christine, Hurt, Vic Fleischer, Fred Tung, Lisa Fairfax, David Zaring

ADVERTISEMENTS

I've really enjoyed teaching at a business school, and those of our readers who are on the market this year might like the same, especially if they have a penchant for the Big Ten, very inexpensive operas, and arms races with well-endowed law schools.  The announcement from Indiana's Kelley School:

KELLEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, INDIANA UNIVERSITY

Department of Business Law and Ethics

The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University seeks applications for open rank, tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Business Law and Ethics, effective August 2011. The successful candidate will join the 15-member Department of Business Law and Ethics at Indiana University?s beautiful Bloomington campus.  Bloomington is a quintessential Midwestern college town - active, intellectual, young, friendly, relaxed, and safe ? that offers a thriving live music and theater scene, coffeehouses, open-air organic markets, eclectic restaurants, and many community festivals, including the annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival. The faculty members of the Department of Business Law and Ethics teach a broad range of courses on law and business ethics in the Kelley School?s highly ranked MBA, graduate accounting, undergraduate, and online MBA programs and regularly publish scholarly articles in leading journals.  They have won numerous teaching and research awards. One of the largest legal studies departments in the nation, the Business Law and Ethics Department at Kelley School is a highly collegial and creative environment in which to work.

Qualified candidates will have an excellent academic record, including a Juris Doctor. Training or professional experience in the field of ethics or other disciplines relevant to the Department?s teaching and research missions may be viewed favorably, but is not required. Desired qualifications include a strong commitment to outstanding teaching and the potential to engage in high quality research. Accordingly, the most competitive candidates will have prior teaching experience and/or evidence of a thoughtful and ambitious research agenda.

Depending on the specific background and qualifications of the successful candidate, as well as the needs of the Department of Business Law and Ethics, teaching responsibilities will include some combination of law and business ethics courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.  The candidate appointed will be expected to develop a strong record of publication in law journals and/or business ethics journals.

Applicants should send, either electronically or by regular mail, (1) a letter of application describing their teaching and research interests and experiences, (2) a current vita or resume, (3) evidence of teaching ability (such as summaries of student evaluations), (4) a representative sample of publications or a legal writing sample, and (5) three letters of reference for untenured positions or six letters for tenured positions to: Jane Mallor, Professor of Business Law and Chair, Department of Business Law and Ethics, Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, 1309 E. Tenth St., Bloomington, IN 47405.  E-mail: mallor@indiana.edu.  Application materials received by October 15, 2010, will be given full consideration. Indiana University is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity.  The University actively encourages applications of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
