AZ enforces it's death penalty on Hawaiian prisoners even though HI abolished the death penalty

Hawai`i abolished the death penalty many years ago. Yet, the State of Arizona is pursuing the death penalty against three Hawai`i inmates accused of murdering Bronson Nunuha and Clifford Medina while confined at CCA's Saguaro prison. This difference in the death penalty is just one of the many problems associated with out-of-state prisoner transfers, and another reason to abolish this ill-conceived correctional practice in Hawai`i. The current governor, Linda Lingle has previously stated that she opposes the death penalty. However, Governor Lingle and other policy makers in Hawai`i have failed to urge the State of Arizona to respect Hawai`i?s laws prohibiting the death penalty, even though Hawai`i retains jurisdiction of these prisoners...continue to full post
