: LawPunditProposed German Law Would Limit Employer Use of Social Media Information about Prospective Employees
By Andis Kaulins
The idea that companies could not use publicly available information about a prospective employee seems to this observer to be absurd, largely unenforceable and removed from reality.
Since people who post to social media networks themselves decide what to share with the public, it seems legally shortsighted to put the onus of responsibility on people, firms or companies who have nothing to do with the creation or publication of the information in question. Rather, stricter laws are required to be made in the direction of the social media companies, regulating the manner in which they do business, which, as in the case of Facebook and privacy protection, leaves a lot to be desired.
